Dust and Obey Squeaky Clean Mysteries Book 10 edition by Christy Barritt Religion Spirituality eBooks

A little over two years ago, I stumbled upon a book called Hazardous Duty about a crime scene cleaner who stumbled into a murder investigation. Now I await every new adventure in Gabby St. Clair’s life. Dust and Obey marks the tenth book in the series and I still cannot get enough of what’s happening in Gabby and her friends’ lives. Fans of this series will be thrilled to know that Riley Thomas lays a very prominent role in this book.

While driving home from a training session for her new job, Gabby receives a phone call from her ex-fiancé in which he asks her to help investigate the murder of a co-worker’s wife. The problem? The investigation will take place on an island. And Riley will be there. And the purpose of these weekend retreats is marriage counseling. Determined to protect her heart from getting smashed to pieces again, Gabby agrees to act the part of Riley’s wife. But narrowing down the suspect pool proves challenging as does avoiding her emotions.

Christy Barritt is a master of infusing humor into stories that would otherwise be tense and emotionally fraught. Gabby’s quirky character remains evident throughout the book—complete with randomly bursting into song, creating her own titles for her songs, and her concern and compassion for her friends. Her first session at the retreat is sure to make you smile, if not laugh out loud. But at the same time you will sense Gabby’s confusion, heartache, and turmoil.

Also, if you have not read the novella, While You Were Sweeping, written from Riley’s perspective during his separation from Gabby, you might want to check that out before delving into this book as it definitely gave me some great perspective on what Riley was hoping for from these three weekends away with Gabby.

Dust and Obey Squeaky Clean Mysteries Book 10 edition by Christy Barritt Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews

I am always excited when I hear Christy is about to release another book in her Squeaky Clean Mystery Book Series. I have bonded with the characters in these books to the point where I think they have become shirt-tail relatives. In "Dust and Obey", Gabby and Riley work together to solve a mystery that takes place on a creepy and remote island, where couples go to have their marriages counseled back to health. This book is filled with just the right number of intriguing characters, and Christy continues to develop her characters' personalities and backgrounds all the way to the very end of the book - something I love! As with the other books in the Squeaky Clean Mystery Book Series, you'll be wearing your "who-dunnit" hat, trying to figure out who is in charge of all things gone awry on the island. I expect you will also feel the pain and confusion of Gabby and Riley, as they explore their feelings and what the next step should be in their relationship. And, of course, what would be a Squeaky Clean book without quirks to appeal to your silly side? Yes, I am happy to report that I laughed out loud at quite a few of Gabby's "thought bubbles"! Gotta love Gabby! This book is considered "Christian Fiction", so no need to blush when you read it in a public place! I am giving it 5 stars because it kept me entertained until the last page ... then, as with any fantastic book, I was bummed when I closed my at "The End". I can't wait to see what life holds in store for Gabby and Riley in the next book in the series!
I am so thankful that I discovered the Squeaky Clean series in the month of July. It gave me one month to read books 1-9, the two novellas, not to mention the two Holly Paladin books. Anyway, I only had to wait a few days for #10. If I had to end on books 6-9, especially book 8, I would've died from waiting. Book #10 is quite satisfying. This will be the first time that I have to truly wait for the next book, but I'll be okay. Just like Gabby.

I LOVED IT! I read it in one day, then reread it over the next few days. I also reread my favorite parts over and over again. Go ahead and call me obsessed.

What I loved most is that Gabby's humor, sass, spunk, and references to culture (pop, literary, you name it,) was in full force. It had been lacking quite a bit in the last several books. I laughed out loud much more than in this book than any other.

As in the past books, there are several grammatical errors. I don't know if pays attention to the typos I submit.

Okay, now the nitty gritty on what I thought about the book.
SPOILERS! (Sorry if it sound negative, but it's just the things I was expecting to read, but they weren't written. I really must be way too invested in these characters!)

Overall, I can't stop smiling! I'm so happy! Finally, Gabby and Riley shared, connected, and moved on. I was so surprised that Gabby was angry at Riley, but I guess she was really trying to protect herself.

In #9, Riley specifically said he had some things that he wanted to share with Gabby. What were they?!?!

I expected more sharing at the end of the kayak scene. They almost died! Oh well.

The one thing that continues to disappoint me in this series is the inconsistencies. I admit, it might be another indicator of my obsession with the series. But, I am totally willing to disregard the inconsistencies because I love this series so much. In this book Riley talks about what kind of wedding he envisioned. It was different than what they planned at the end of "The Scum of all Fears." I could chalk it up to not remembering from his brain injury, but Gabby would certainly remember! Also, Gabby already knew that Chad and Sierra were having a baby boy and she only had her medical examiner job for one month, not two.

Finally, I wish Riley had told Gabby that he had never stopped being in love with her. I think she really needs to hear this from him.
